What are Gel Nails?
Gels are a type of nail polish that is cured under a UV or LED light onto the natural nail.
Depending on the type of gel used, you should be getting around 3 weeks of wear from your gel polish.
How do I get the most wear out of my Gel Nails?
To ensure your nails stay healthy and strong, and your gel nails intact, making sure your hands and cuticles are well moisturised is a must. Daily application of moisturiser and cuticle oil is key. With the gel polish, you will find your nails feeling much stronger than usual. Make sure to not take advantage of this, and do not use your nails as tools! Opening packages, cans, wrapping presents etc are all common ways of damaging your nails.
What does my appointment entail?
The appointment for gel nails is usually an hour.
The appointment starts with nail preparation, including removal if necessary. Also included is nail shaping, smoothing and tidying of the cuticles.
A base coat or builder gel is then applied, followed by any colour or glitter combo of your choice, and finally a high shine top coat and a slather of nourishing cuticle oil.
What type of gel does HBB use?
For the base coat, there are two options. For naturally strong, healthy nails, a rubber base is used. This is a thick, rubbery base coat that adheres well to the natural nail. For nails that need a bit of extra strength, a biotin-infused builder gel is used. Builder gel is a stronger, thicker gel that can be used to build up the nail. Biotin is a type of vitamin B that promotes the strength and growth of the natural nails (and hair!). A coloured gel is then applied, followed by any glitter, chrome, holographic powder, diamante that you want. Finally a high shine top coat is applied, and a cuticle oil to finish.
